Communication
How people in the lab talk to colleagues and communicate outside the lab.
Within the lab
Use Discord to communicate with colleagues within CIBIT, this is the primary way of communication on a day-to-day basis.
Discord
Ask Discord admins, for instance Alexandre Sayal or Hugo Quental), to give you access to the dedicated server - CIBIT-UC.
There you can see MAIN
, INFORMATION
, WORK CHANNELS
, ASK THE GROUP
, NOT WORK
and MEETING ROOMS
categories. Each will have public channels covering technical, informative, and informal topics. You can also be added or create yourself private channels which are accessed only by invited members, usually to work on a specific project or discuss a specific topic of (not #general
) interest. Of course you can also use Discord to talk to send direct messages to a colleague separately or a group of users (only if you add users as friends).
Important notes / Tips:
- Change the interface language to English!
- Please do not eliminate public channels, this is irreversible.
- You can “Mute Channel” to stop receiving notifications from a specific channel.
Mailing lists
We have two main mailing lists (i.e. googlegroups). Please contact admins João Castelhano and Catarina Duarte and ask them to add you.
- grupoMCB - grupomcb [at] googlegroups.com
Formal mailing list, everyone should be included - used to disseminate important work-related information to the group and access groups’ calendars.
- calções & Tshirt - calcoesetshirt [at] googlegroups.com
Informal mailing list, feel free to join - mainly used to share informal information (e.g. birth events) and organize team building events within the group.
Calendars
Within CIBIT we have shared Google Calendars to organize the booking of labs/equipments. Please contact admins João Castelhano and Catarina Duarte to give you access to the lab calendars and use them to check availability and book your own experiments/events.
